Masonry in Denver, CO
Blackpine Hardscapes builds and repairs masonry across Denver, CO, from stone veneer and columns to brick and block walls. Our winters run 40 to 100 freeze-thaw cycles a year, so we set every outdoor joint in Type S mortar or stronger.
Get Your Free 3D Design Plan"We contacted Blackpine for a massive concrete project – adding to our front driveway, creating a more elegant walkway, replacing sidewalk, replacing our RV pad, and building a giant concrete patio. They checked all the boxes: locally owned, shared our vision, very competitive pricing, and confident professionalism. Jose's design input was invaluable and his family crew was always polite. The concrete turned out absolutely amazing. My boys ride their bikes on it every day and we get compliments from neighbors constantly."

"Blackpine Hardscapes was great to work with! They provided a clear description of the work and asked questions as they worked to confirm it was what we wanted. I love the final product so much!"

"These guys were quick, friendly, professional, and very good at what they do! We got a quote from José that came with a suggested plan of action, and by the following Wednesday we had a beautiful xeriscaped yard. Once the team showed up, they were finished within three days. Very impressed, highly recommend."

Stone, Brick, and Block
Stone That Looks Right and Stays Put
Stone veneer is the quickest way to change a plain surface. Facing a block column, a stucco entry, or a retaining wall in stone changes the whole front of a house. Manufactured veneer from Cultured Stone and El Dorado Stone runs consistent in color and texture, so a repair years later can still match. Natural fieldstone, quartzite, and limestone age differently, and the variation in each piece gets more interesting over time.
Denver's older brick plays by different rules. The Victorian apartment buildings in Capitol Hill and the brick bungalows in Berkeley and Jefferson Park were laid up in soft, lime-based mortar. Repointing that brick with a hard Portland-based product damages the brick face instead of protecting it, so we match the original mortar on older structures. Newer block, veneer, and cap work gets the modern spec.
- Natural stone walls (flagstone, fieldstone, limestone), brick and block retaining walls, and decorative stone veneers
- Fireplace surrounds, outdoor fireplaces, and column and pillar construction
- Mortared stone walkways and steps, capstones, and tuck-pointing on older brick
Mortar color matching takes practice. Mortar shifts color as it cures, and the joints you are matching have been weathered for decades. We test-mix samples, let them cure, and adjust the pigment before we touch the wall. A good repair disappears instead of marking where the damage was.

How It Works
How a Masonry Project Runs
We Walk the Property With You
We come out and look at the wall, column, veneer, or repair you have in mind. We check the grade, the drainage, and the condition of any brick or block already there. Built right, masonry lasts 50 to 100 years, so the point of that first visit is to see what the site needs. The visit is free.
3D Design and a Fixed Price
You see the stone, the brick, and the joint color in 3D before we mix anything. Pick the veneer, the cap, and the coursing pattern while it is still a drawing. Then you get one fixed price that covers the whole scope of work. Changes you make on screen cost nothing.
Mortar, Weep Holes, and Flashing
Type N is the standard general-purpose mortar, and it is not enough for outdoor work here. We use Type S as our minimum, which is about twice as strong in compression as Type N, and Type M below grade. Weep holes at the base of veneer let trapped water drain back out. Flashing over caps and step treads keeps it out of the joints.
Cleanup, Walkthrough, and Handoff
We clean the faces, point up any joint that needs it, and walk the finished work with you. If white efflorescence shows up in the first season, tell us. It is salt carried out of the material by water, so we trace the water rather than just wash the surface. Our work is backed by warranties.
